Two Approaches to 100 Pushup Challenge

It’s been the rage for a bit… seeing if you can do 100 pushups in a row.  Sounded a bit daunting to me, so I went on a hunt to see if there are any “secret” training recipes to get the job done.  I found a few, but these seem to be the most practical:

Six days per week timed workout

This one may be a bit tough to get done wherever you work (except if you work at home… lucky you if that’s the case), but if you can find a place to get the workout in, then you’ll be ringing the “did it” bell in no time…

  • Mon/Wed/Fri Workout 1: Perform 4 sets of your max number of reps. Take as long as you need to get it done. You’ll likely find your max reps slipping as you go from the first to the last set.
  • Tue/Thur/Sat Workout 2: B: You’ll need to set a timed alarm to poke you every two to three hours so that you wind up doing this five times over the course of the day. Alarm goes off, you drop for two sets. The first set you’ll pump out reps until you reach max. Then rest 45 seconds. Second set you’re going to hit the same max rep count as the first, but you may need to rest a second or two along the way (but keep it to bare minimum!)
  • Sunday off
  • Continue the six-day cycle until you hit 100

Tempo pushups

  • Step 1: Find your current push up max reps. Perform “pause” pushups where you rest at the top thro 3 seconds, then for the next rep.  Repeat this until you max out your reps. Then rest for 3 minutes.
  • Step 2: Now repeat the process until you double your max rep count from the first step. For example, if you reached 40 pushups in Step 1, you want to go to fatigue for the next set… let’s say you make it to 35, you’ll then rest 3 minutes, then go again to fatigue, rest 3 minutes, then go again until you hit 80 (2x your max from Step 1).
  • Continue doing daily until you hit 100 in Step 1.
